A large toad one or two warts are present in each dorsal spot. Large spiny warts also cover the dorsal part of the hind legs

The American Toad found in northeastern United States and the Midwest states to eastern Kansas and the Dakotas
Orange counties indicate new records since previous Herps of Texas updated in 1998; all other colors represent counties with known American Toad population prior to 1998
