  Red-Spotted Newt

There are 2 dorsolateral rows of black bordered red spots. It has a laterally flattened tail and 3 pits on the side of the head. There is no nasolabial groove and no costal grooves. The smooth skin secretes a noxious substance when injured

The aquatic adult Red-Spotted Newt has an olive green to yellow brown dorsum, and pale to yellow belly covered with black dots

Size:

Red-Spotted Newt can grow to be 2 1/2-5 1/2in long including the tail

Habitat:

The Red-Spotted Newt lives in pondslakes, streams, and marshes.

Range of habitat:

The eastern newt is found from Nova Scotia in Canada south to Florida and west to Ontario and Texas.
